Set Realistic Goals To Stay Focused And Motivated

"Yes you can learn how to set realistic goals and become encouraged to set more!"

Do you know how to set realistic goals, or do you purposely set unrealistic goals that cause you to become discouraged and quit before you reach your dreams?

It take focus and commitment to achieve your ambitions. Once you figure out what your goals are, you must learn to set milestones for those goals and reach them one step at a time.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself?

  • fitness
  • financial
  • professional
  • personal

Have you set realistic goals in these areas? Goal must be realistic to be effective.

Impractical or unrealistic goals goals can hinder your good intentions to get achieve your goals. Consider these important steps for establishing a plan to set realistic goals:

1.) Set a goal based on what you believe is achievable. When I set my very first financial goal; I set it based on what other people where doing. Although I did not really believe it was possible, because I couldn't imagine myself actually achieving it in one year. I had never earned that much money; however that was my mentors goal, so I didn't want to set a goal smaller than hers. Well guess what I did not achieve that goal, if you do not believe it is possible to achieve that goal, then chances are you will not achieve your desires.

2.) Focus only on your goal. Once you know where you would like to be say 3-5 years, spend most of your time focusing on your goals. Do not focus or think about failure or what will happen if you do not reach it. Always believe that you can and will reach the end.

3.) Do not set goals too low. Just as it is important to set realistic goals, you should also not set them too low. People tend to do this when they are afraid of failure or where they simply do not want to put forth the effort to reach their dreams.

If a goal is easily achieved then it is a goal that is set too low for you. However celebrate your success from the achievement of the goal. Next time you set your goal be open to change:

  • If you reached your goal too easily without much effort, then make the next goal harder
  • If the it took too long to reach the goal, then next time set a more realistic goal that will be easier for you to achieve.
  • If your journey changed and you know longer are passionate about the goal you set, don't be ashamed to change your goal
  • If you fail to reach a goal, do not be hard on yourself. Just find a new path that may be easier for you to accomplish. Remember failure is not a bad thing as long as you learn from it.
  • Be flexible with your goals, You may be required to develop new skills and more education on your personal development journey.

Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision. -Mahummad Ali

You should remember to set realistic goals more often, if you set unrealistic goals and fail to reach them. Your ego will begin to tell you; that you are a failure. This will implant limiting beliefs in your mind, and you will either quit setting goals for yourself because you will be afraid that you will not be able to reach them.

These thoughts will sabatoge you and implant a barrier to reach all the goals you set for yourself in the future.
